"California DUI Arrests are Declining," DMV Tells State Legislators In May, 2012 the California DMV presented it's annual report of the DUI MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM to the California State Legislature. This report presents information on DUI arrests, convictions, court sanctions, administrative actions and alcohol-involved crashes from 2009 to 2010. You are eligible for the 1650 waiver packet after your suspension is up. Usually you request a packet about one month before your suspension is up. After you have a 1650 waiver packet, you are not required to do classes for the DMV.  You get one in a lifetime. This will terminate the action against the driver's license. This waives privileges to have a license or drive in California for three years. If you want a license within 3 years you have to do classes in California. Checkpoints are Working Recently, law enforcement agencies in the State of California have been conducting sobriety checkpoints on California's highways.  Even though no federal or state laws govern what happens at the checkpoints, auditor reports show that the checkpoint program is working. California Office of Traffic Safety isn't required to monitor how the checkpoints are conducted, but local law enforcement agencies report that they are running effectively and efficiently.  As proof of their effectiveness, California's fatality rates (caused by drunk driving) have dropped nearly 12% from 2009 to 2010. According to the program auditors, the sobriety checkpoints have resulted in almost 28,000 citizen citations.  The citations range from unlicensed drivers to about 7,000 drunk driving arrests.
